Dr. Belongie is an experienced orthopedic surgeon that believes in partnering with patients to create a comprehensive wellness strategy. He meets with patients to explore non-surgical options prior to recommending surgery. He believes that patients should feel comfortable and spends time educating and informing patients on both options and the recovery process.
Dr. Belongie graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. He received his orthopedic training at Tulane University with a pediatric rotation done at the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital of Atlanta. He finished his training by spending two years at the prestigious Campbell Clinic in Memphis Tennessee
He focuses on all areas of orthopedic surgery including general fracture care, hip replacement with computer navigation, hip bursa arthroscopy, carpal and cubital tunnel treatment, and thumb arthritis surgery as well as treatment of several other common hand and elbow disorders. Dr. Belongie is committed to continuing education and providing patients with access to best practices and innovative procedures. In order to fulfill this promise he recently completed a three month fellowship in shoulder surgery to get current in the latest treatment of rotator cuff surgery and Reverse Shoulder Replacement for treatment of shoulder arthritis resulting from long term rotator cuff tears.
Prior to starting medical school Dr. Belongie received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University, and a Masters Degree in Biomechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa. He spent several years designing medical equipment as a mechanical engineer prior to deciding to pursue his true calling as a physician.
Dr. Belongie was personally impacted by Hurricane Katrina and survived for five days at Charity Hospital in New Orleans where he assisted with patient care, evacuations, and rescues. Read More.
